James MacTaggart is the Chief Marketing Officer of NextDecade Corporation (NASDAQ: NEXT). He has over 25 years of experience delivering large and complex deals in the LNG and natural gas industry, working across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and the United States.
James is currently responsible for NextDecade’s global marketing activities based out of Singapore. NextDecade is developing a 27 million metric tonne LNG export facility in South Texas, and one of the world’s largest planned carbon capture and storage projects.
To date, James has executed LNG contracts supporting positive final investment decisions on five greenfield LNG projects, including in July 2023, when NextDecade took a positive final investment decision on its first three LNG trains at Rio Grande LNG, and expects to take a final investment decision on Train 4 in 2024.
Prior to joining NextDecade, James spent over 20 years with Shell in various senior marketing and trading positions. His last role was General Manager of Shell’s New Gas and LNG Markets business in Asia, India, and the Middle East, where he set up Shell Energy India, integrated Shell’s trading and midstream gas and LNG businesses and signed Myanmar’s first LNG infrastructure contract with Myanmar’s president.
James holds an M.B.A. with distinction from Bayes Business School and an honours degree in classical and modern Chinese from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London.
