Mr. Yuya Hasegawa

Director for Energy Resources Development Division Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE)
Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Japan 

Hasegawa has served as Director for Energy Resources Development Division since July 2023. 

He has spent most of his career in METI for energy policies Since he joined in METI (formerly in 2000, he has been engaged in the liberalization of the gas utility sector and the policy for promoting nuclear power plants at Electricity and Gas Utility Department and the oil and gas policies at Natural Resources and Fuel Department. 

At the middle of his career, Hasegawa was seconded from METI to Prime Minister’s Office to be in charge of energy and environmental issues from 2010 to 2013 as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (Kan, Noda and Abe administration). During this term, in response to Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, he was engaged in emergency operation for the nuclear incident in Fukushima and reconstruction of Japanese energy policies after the incident. 

Recently, he was stationed in Hong Kong from 2019 to 2022, as the special advisor to the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, to work on the industrial research in Greater China region and the energy cooperation project between China and Japan. 

Hasegawa earned his master’s degree of public policy from Harris School of Public Policy, the University of Chicago, and his B.A. in business and commerce from Keio University.
